It’s all about the chef…..
July 31st, 2009Cooking, the process of transforming consumable ingredients with/without heat for the human being. It is then transformed within to energy, for the human being to perform ….. whatever.
Simple enough? NO.
But since the early days of the Romans, it has been more than this. Cooking was an already an art back in the day. And having big meals or feasts (what we know in modern times as dinner parties ) were a source to show ones wealth and status. Simple equation, the bigger the feasts equals the wealthier the host.
What’s that I hear from you?? Those days are over?? HA! Well yes and no… ( especially with the current economic umbrella ). These days it’s not about the host..oh no… it’s even more absurd… its about the freaking chef! How weird is that!
It’s all about the chefs……….
From a diner’s standpoint (of course the more “upper class” snobs…kidding), you wont often hear an opening sentence like… “oh oh, I had the most amazing XXX soup the other day…” “well I was at restaurant YYY….yeah the food there is good!”

However it would most probably come out like that… “ hmm.. well the other night I was at chef XXX restaurant.. my god he was fabulous … what I read about him was true, oh and guess who I saw there as well…. “ then nearing the end of the topic, like in an almost tone of solace… “oh, and the pasta was nice…hmmm” …
It’s all about the chefs……….
From a chefs perspective, it is all about being able to create something new FIRST, something fascinating FIRST, something with a new age equipment FIRST, fabricating a everyday ingredient into something FIRST, how to serve a dish in a way FIRST…. The list goes on mind you….. so the battle for superiority goes on and on…
It’s all about the chefs……….
and these chefs all petition that they believe in being open to sharing… pardon my language but BULLSHIT!…..yes you heard me.. BULLSHIT…I will say it again for good measure… bullshit.
Because the only reason why chefs are putting their work out there is to show that he/she had done it FIRST.
Me..its all ME……it’s mine.. it is my work… i made it … ME….. it’s not truly about sharing with the world.. deep down they all know it, it is again the constant battle for being FIRST. It is not about being number 1 anymore.. it is about being FIRST.
It’s all about the chefs……….
In a way people would all like to sample the creation of a famous chef… heck even me… I will admit it. I guess it has to also do with social culture these days… I don’t really know. But I guess it reaches to a point where the food will never be too bad or even amazingly great, as long as it came from the kitchen of a “famous” chef…. Now, that for sure is not a FIRST.
It’s all about the chefs……….
