carnivorous night

It was B’s birthday and she was craving for a steak dinner. We have been to a few places for steak and the expectations for this one was pretty high. Lawry’s The Prime rib Singapore, has a rich history and a great track record with meat lovers from around. However, many people ( some whom we know ) debate  it’s not the place to have a good steak and there are other better places ?!?!

Some how the decor of the restaurant all played a great part of the meal. It was posh and yet comfortable and inviting, a plus point for any kind of restaurant. The place was unpretentious just like the food. It felt like having dinner in an art museum with early oil paintings ( which was not a bad thing )

We begun with the famous Lawry’s salad which is tossed with the dressing at the table, then recommended to be enjoyed with their house pepper. Simple, fresh, crisp and light…………….nice.

For the main course, a 70′s robot look-alike trolley approaches the table, and the chef and server carves and sauce the plate. This is like a self sufficed trolley where it holds the mash, veg …. etc

Even the baked potato is dressed at the table ! ( somehow i think it is nice but little too much ) Anyway, all is forgiven because the spud is really really good……… again simple and ……….. well, good!

Now for the main attraction……. the meat was simply cooked almost perfect ( nothing really is perfect, almost perfect is as perfect as anything can get – it is me being me…again ) pretty sure it was slow cooked as the cooking was really even. The meaty flavor of the gravy came through perfectly together with the meat and potato puree. The side creamed spinach was heavenly (even thou it does not look like it, it really is ). The only let down was the Yorkshire pudding that was just too eggy. But with a great piece of meat like that, the pudding could be overlooked.

Lawry’s cooks and serves with tradition where it’s rich history and reputation is not compromised. However one can tell that alot of thought is given to every single service and dish. The relaxed atmosphere and simple great food is why every customer would want to return to Lawry’s and not anywhere else. So for those who think that a great steak dinner in Singapore is found elsewhere should really just keep their bad judgement of food to themselves …. lol . This is a must try !
