OH CHRISTMAS TREE …….

The main item in the sea of Christmas decorations would  be the Christmas tree … but we all ask where did this tree come from ?

Well the tree was actually a Pagan practice where they would cut evergreen trees (evergreen trees to pagans represented eternal life and hope of replenishment) and bring it into their homes and decorate it with precious metals (or in some other reports fruits were hung to symbolize of plentiful of food to come ). As the pagans feared that the sun would be absorbed the night and they would all freeze. As during that time of the year the nights were longer. This said, it was celebrated by pagans as the Winter Solstice, the day of the year when the sun ascents ushering agricultural fertility and good harvest. Candles were also placed on the tress to represent the light and warmth of the sun.

Today, after a whole lot of debate, transformation and acceptance. We use the tree as a symbol of the Christmas celebrations. Where we all know that the night will not absorb the sun. Instead of precious metals and candles we use different decorative purposes and lights. Nothing religious and nothing to fear, just a symbol of the season, a time for families and friends to gather, a time of feasting and most importantly a time of reconciliation. With all these, a decorated tree is the perfect backdrop for any Christmas celebrations.

Here in Singapore it is a big buisness when it comes to the shopping malls …. like the previous post … its best explained in the photos ….
