A Cuppa?(Stick?) of Chcolate

by Chef Ben posted June 2, 2010 category General

Most of us (well at least here in South East Asia ) grew up drinking Milo. Watching shows on the tele or at the movies was a major contributor to this love of cup of rich warm chocolate.  I remember watching tele shows like “Alf” or “Growing Pains”, where along the series there would moments where cups of hot chocolate would be enjoyed by the family. Or how about the movie “chocolat” starring Johnny Depp and Hélène Cardona with the unforgettable hot chocolate with paprika. Who cannot forget having the “Milo” van serving out small plastic cups of “Iced Milo” to hyper active students (or in my case, the greedy fat boy) and even during national service, the “Milo” truck would still come along during celebratory occasions. Then the import of Hershey into the region brought along the instant hot chocolate. Today, if you just take a walk into a super mart down the dry beverage aisles you would be spoilt for choices in terms of the instant hot chocolate. But the instant hot chocolate has taken a new direction, from the Belgian company Choc-O-Lait.

With the intelligent idea of having that instant cup of hot chocolate with quality Belgian chocolate goodness. They offer a range of Dark, Milk, Nut & Cointreau. Warm your cup of milk till 80 degrees Celsius, pop in your chocolate stick and stir. And in barley a minute you have your hot chocolate ! As of yet I am not sure if they have a distributor in Asia apart from Japan and South Korea. However I really hope it does come soon. Just being able to have one sample serving really makes you crave for more …….

Happy Fooding !!!
